Tribeca program for minority filmmakeres

The folks at the Tribeca Film Festival are launching a new program designed to introduce minority filmmakers to potential producers and investors. Similar to the IFP Market's No Borders section, the program looks like a great place for new filmmakers to get a leg up. From the official announcement:

TRIBECA FILM INSTITUTE LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAM TO SUPPORT ETHNIC MINORITY FILMMAKERS

A new program called "Tribeca All Access" will provide a bridge between US-based minority filmmakers and the film industry. Tribeca All Access will make its debut during the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.

The objective of Tribeca All Access will be to facilitate networking opportunities and create visibility for filmmakers of color in order to help them gain the representation and/or financial backing that will move their projects from the development or work-in-progress stage to production. Tribeca All Access will be configured as a featured component of the Tribeca Film Institute in which there will be a complete program of meetings, panels, screenings, receptions and awards for program participants.  It will run from May 3 through May 6, 2004. The Tribeca Film Festival runs May 1 through May 9, 2004.

At the core of the program will be individual project discussion meetings with film industry representatives, which will include independent producers, production companies, development executives, sales agents, literary agents and equity financiers. A slate of project discussion meetings will be arranged on a case-by-case basis for each participant.

Tribeca All Access will be open to Latino, African American, Asian American, Native American and Pacific Islander filmmakers.

Approximately twenty fiction and documentary directors with projects will be selected to be featured participants of Tribeca All Access.  Those directors' work that is in keeping with the themes of Tribeca All Access will also be screened at the Festival.

Fiction at the development stage or non-fiction projects at the work-in-progress stage will be eligible for participation in Tribeca All Access.  Complete details on eligibility requirements and submission information for Tribeca All-Access may be obtained by calling (212) 941-4012, or at www.tribecafilminstitute.org.  The deadline for entries is February 13, 2004.
